Spring backcountry skiing in the San Juan Mountain is an experience of a lifetime, every backcountry skier should experience it. April and May are the best times to visit Silverton and the surrounding San Juan Mountains for skiing in the spring. The suites at the Lodge are all named after the peaks one should have on their punch list: Bear Mountain, Sultan Mountain, The Grand Turk, Storm Peak, to name a few. All of these peaks have lines that are much safer when they corn up in the spring. Good, up to date information on the local Silverton skiing lines and conditions can sometimes be hard to find, but you are in luck as your host (me) is a lifetime backcountry skier and has vast knowledge of the San Juan Mountains.
